Can firewalls or ports cause problems with accessing library databases?

If you are off-campus, your firewall may be preventing access to library databases. It may relate to the ports your computer allows access to. If you are at a workplace, ask your computer security staff to see whether some ports may have been restricted. Otherwise, check your own firewall software's port settings. Remember that routers may have their own firewalls. See the documentation for your brand and model of router. To use library databases or the catalog, allow outbound traffic on port 2443 for login.libpdb.d.umn.edu. If this doesn't solve the problem, you can also try opening port 2048
