How do I borrow materials from other libraries? What is the difference between Interlibrary Loan and "Get It!"?

The Kathryn A. Martin Library provides both Get It and Interlibrary Loan online services to obtain books and articles for UMD students, staff, and faculty. Library guest users can request items from other U of M libraries with the assistance of staff at the Circulation desk.

Use the Get It service to request materials from the Kathryn A. Martin Library or from any library within the University of Minnesota system. When you are searching in our library catalog and find a title that you want, you can request it by clicking on the Get It icon. (NOTE: You must log in to make the Get It button visible.) We will retrieve the title and hold it for you at the Circulation desk save shelf. Faculty and staff with on-campus addresses may choose "office delivery" as the pickup location to request mail delivery of Get It materials.

When items cannot be found in the University of Minnesota system, you can turn to Interlibrary Loan as a way of getting the materials you want.
