Library FAQ

I can't find a title in the library catalog. It seems UMD doesn't have the title that I need. How do I request materials using Get It or Interlibrary Loan?

While a large library with an extensive collection, the Kathryn A. Martin Library doesn't hold all of the world's materials. However, we can track down books, articles, and journals for you.

  • You can contact a librarian via AskUs! or stop in to consult with a Reference Librarian (second floor) for assistance with finding materials on the shelf or in digital formats.
  • UMD students, faculty, and staff can request materials from other University of Minnesota campus libraries using the Get It service.  Just log into our catalog, find a title, and request it by clicking on the GET IT link. We will retrieve the title and hold it for you at the Circulation Desk. Are you a faculty or staff on campus? If so, you can choose "office delivery" as the pickup location.
  • Log in to your interlibrary loan account to request materials not available within the University of Minnesota system.

Library guests are welcome to ask the circulation desk staff for help requesting items from other University of Minnesota libraries.
